German demi-gauntlets, c.1510. Based closely on artefacts A256, A257 from the Wallace collection, London.
Made of 18 and 20 gauge steel, (folded double at cuff and finger lame) with hand-made buckles and deerskin gloves – can be custom made to fit any size of hand. Rivets run in slots along the outside edge of each gauntlet, permitting excellent freedom of movement. For this reason, and that they are of simple and economical build, they are ideal for the lightly-armoured practitioner of Western martial arts. Contemporary images depict similar gauntlets being worn with a minimal amount of other armour.
